چکیده

Apodemus peninsulae is a field mouse that inhabits the broad-leafed forests of temperate Eurasia. We examined the mitochondrial cytochrome b gene in 57 individuals of A. peninsulae from northeastern Asia, including Siberia, Primorye, Magadan region, Sakhalin, Hokkaido, and the Korean Peninsula. The genealogy of the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) in A. peninsulae was shown to have substantial geographic affinity, suggesting geographic architecture of northeastern Asia, including the islands of Sakhalin and Hokkaido, played important roles on the cladogenesis. Taking into account the presence of region-specific anciently divergent mtDNA types, three parts of the regions of Primorye, Siberia, and the Korean Peninsula can be denoted as refugia for A. peninsulae during the substantial period of the Quaternary glacial ages. Among the geographic regions examined, Primorye is likely to be the most influential one, from which the mtDNA is thought

Genetic Characterization of Hantaviruses Transmitted by the Korean Field Mouse (Apodemus peninsulae), Far East Russia

In an epizootiologic survey of 122 rodents captured in Vladivostok, Russia, antibodies positive for hantavirus were found in Apodemus peninsulae (4/70), A. agrarius (1/39), and Clethrionomys rufocanus (1/8). The hantavirus sequences identified in two seropositive A. peninsulae and two patients with hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) from the Primorye region of Far East Russia were des...

Phylogeny of the genus Apodemus with a special emphasis on the subgenus Sylvaemus using the nuclear IRBP gene and two mitochondrial markers: cytochrome b and 12S rRNA.

Phylogenetic relationships among 17 extant species of Murinae, with special reference to the genus Apodemus, were investigated using sequence data from the nuclear protein-coding gene IRBP (15 species) and the two mitochondrial genes cytochrome b and 12S rRNA (17 species). The analysis of the three genes does not resolve the relationships between Mus, Apodemus, and Rattus but separates Micromys...

The Role of Factors Influencing Total Factor Productivity in East and West Asia with Emphasis on Human Capital and Oil Rents

The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors affecting TFP in the East and West Asia in order to discover the reasons for the difference in total productivity in each of these regions. For this purpose, factors affecting TFP, especially human capital and oil rents, were investigated using several static and dynamic models and forming two distinct groups from East and West Asia. The r...

Cloning and Sequence Analysis of the Structural Gene for the <Emphasis Type="Italic">bc</Emphasis> <Subscript>1</Subscript> <Emphasis Type="Italic">-</Emphasis>Type Rieske Iron-Sulfur Protein from <Emphasis Type="Italic">Thermus thermophilus</Emphasis> HB8

The structural gene encoding the Rieske iron-sulfur protein from Thermus thermophilus HB8 has been cloned and sequenced. The gene encodes a protein of 209 amino acids that begins with a hydrophilic N-terminus followed by a stretch of 21 hydrophobic amino acids that could serve as a transmembrane helix. The remainder of the protein has a hydrophobicity pattern typical of a water-soluble protein....

The use of a non-coding region of chloroplast DNA in phylogenetic studies of the subtribe <Emphasis Type="Italic">Sonchinae </Emphasis> ( <Emphasis Type="Italic">Asteraceae </Emphasis>: <Emphasis Type="Italic">Lactuceae </Emphasis>)

The systematic utility of sequences from a non-coding region of chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) between psbA and trnH (6v6) was examined by assessing phylogenetic relationships in subtribe Sonchinae (Asteraceae: Lactuceae). Primers constructed against highly conserved regions of tRNA genes were used for PCR amplification and sequencing. The psbA-trnH intergenic spacer contains several insertions and de...
